92_SR0591 LRB9218486HShsB 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Stan Weaver is the dean of the Illinois Senate; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, For 45 years, Stan has devoted his life to 5 public service; and 6 WHEREAS, He served as Mayor of Urbana from May 1957 to 7 January 1969; and 8 WHEREAS, He has represented citizens of the 52nd District 9 in the Senate since 1970, after one term in the House of 10 Representatives; and 11 WHEREAS, He was named to the newly-created position of 12 Senate Majority Leader in 1997, after serving as Assistant 13 Senate Leader for 22 years; and 14 WHEREAS, He most recently served as chairman of the 15 Senate Rules Committee, and was a member of the Senate 16 Executive Committee, Appropriations Committee, and Operations 17 Commission; and 18 WHEREAS, As a lawmaker, Stan's priorities have always 19 been those of the people he represents, including quality 20 education, agriculture and economic development; and 21 WHEREAS, He has always been a strong advocate for the 22 University of Illinois and has helped it become one of the 23 best institutions of higher education in the nation; and 24 WHEREAS, When he rose to speak in the Senate, people 25 recognized his command of the issues - and listened; and 26 WHEREAS, Stan is held in the highest esteem by his 27 colleagues from both political parties; and 28 WHEREAS, Stan Weaver was born May 23, 1925, in 29 Harrisburg, graduated from Urbana public schools, attended -2- LRB9218486HShsB 1 Michigan State College and the University of Illinois, and 2 graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science; and 3 WHEREAS, He served in the Army Air Force during World War 4 II in the Southwest Pacific Theater; and 5 WHEREAS, He is past president of the Illinois Municipal 6 League; and 7 WHEREAS, He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8 and the American Legion; and 9 WHEREAS, He earned the rare distinction of 33rd Degree 10 Mason with his long-time service with the Masonic Lodge, 11 Danville Consistory; and 12 WHEREAS, He is a member of the Mohammed Temple and the 13 International Chili Society; and 14 WHEREAS, He and his late wife, Mary, have a son, Blake, a 15 daughter, Sherry, and two granddaughters; and 16 WHEREAS, When Stan retires, his legacy to the State of 17 Illinois will be one of quiet, effective leadership and 18 commitment to the greater good; therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Stan 21 Weaver as he retires from the Illinois Senate and wish him 22 well in all his future endeavors; and be it further 23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and 24 resolution be presented to Stan Weaver with our thanks for a 25 job well done.
