92_SR0607 SDS/92BSR0007/LThs 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Senate is grateful to those members who have 3 devoted their energy and talent to the betterment of this 4 body and the well being of the people of the State of 5 Illinois; and 6 WHEREAS, William "Bill" Shaw of Dolton was elected to the 7 Illinois Senate in 1992 and has served this body with 8 distinction throughout his ten years as a member; and 9 WHEREAS, During his three terms in the Senate, Senator 10 Shaw served as an Assistant Democratic Leader and most 11 recently as Democratic spokesperson of the Senate Environment 12 and Energy Committee; and 13 WHEREAS, Senator Shaw has also served on the Committees 14 on Agriculture and Conservation, Executive, Licensed 15 Activities, Local Government, Transportation, and the 16 Legislative Research Unit and Legislative Reference Bureau 17 legislative commissions; and 18 WHEREAS, Senator Shaw has amassed numerous legislative 19 accomplishments which have enhanced the quality of life for 20 the people of his Far South Side Chicago and South Suburban 21 Chicago district and all of the people of the State of 22 Illinois, including passage of landmark electric utility 23 legislation that called for private utility companies to 24 lower their rates, open up competition, and provide resources 25 to bridge the digital divide in low income communities; and 26 WHEREAS, In addition to his service in the Illinois 27 Senate, Senator Shaw had a strong ten years of service in the 28 Illinois House, serving in that body from 1983 until his 29 election to the Senate in 1992; and 30 WHEREAS, Senator Shaw has been active in local politics 31 and government in Chicago and its suburbs for many years; and -2- SDS/92BSR0007/LThs 1 WHEREAS, Senator Shaw will be remembered fondly by those 2 who served with him in the Illinois Senate and the House for 3 his quick smile and laugh and his tireless advocacy for 4 seniors, veterans, women, working families and consumers and 5 programs promoting better schools and municipalities; 6 therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That we offer our best 9 wishes to Senator William "Bill" Shaw upon his retirement 10 from the Senate; we offer hope for a rewarding future with 11 his wife, Shirley, and their three children, Victor, Shawn 12 and Gina; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and 14 resolution be presented to Senator William "Bill" Shaw as a 15 measure of our esteem and respect for our colleague and 16 friend.
