FRITCHEY-ACEVEDO-MCAULIFFE-BUGIELSKI-SCHMITZ. 720 ILCS 5/12-2 from Ch. 38, par. 12-2 Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 concerning the offense of aggravated assault when the individual assaulted is known by the offender to be a peace officer, community policing volunteer, fireman, emergency medical technician or other first aid personnel who is engaged in the official execution of his or her duties. Increases the penalty for this offense from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class 4 felony if any deadly weapon or any device manufactured and designed to be substantially similar in appearance to a firearm (instead of a firearm) is used in the commission of the assault. CORRECTIONAL NOTE (Department of Corrections) House Bill 3674 would result in an increase of 23 inmates with $5,583,500 in additional costs over the first ten years of this enactment.
