FLOWERS. New Act Creates the Provider Termination Notification Act. Provides that a health care licensing board that takes an adverse action against a licensed health care professional or that has reported to it an adverse action taken by a hospital or other health care professional review committee against a licensed health care professional shall notify any health carrier that voluntarily provides the licensing board a point of contact to receive information of adverse actions. Provides that a health carrier may limit, restrict, suspend, or terminate the agreement under which the licensed health care professional furnishes health care items and services to participants, beneficiaries, or enrollees of the health carrier. FISCAL NOTE (Illinois Department of Professional Regulation) The Department is going to sell a monthly subscription to mail or fax the monthly disciplinary report at a cost of $48 per year. The maximum cost to the agency, assuming that all health carriers requested a mailed copy of the report provided at no charge from the agency, is estimated at $62,400 per year. If all health carriers instead accessed the information from our web site, then there would be no additional financial impact to the agency. In addition, the agency anticipates a maximum cost to mail notification to all health carriers of adverse actions reported by hospitals to be approximately $85,000.
