KLEMM. New Act 30 ILCS 805/8.25 new Creates the Safe Place for Newborns Act. Provides requirements concerning when a hospital must accept a newborn left with a hospital employee and when a fire station must accept a newborn left with a fire station employee. Requires a fire station employee to take the newborn to a hospital. Requires the hospital to inform a local welfare agency or the Department of Children and Family Services within 24 hours. Provides immunity for the hospital and medical professionals and the municipality or fire protection district and fire station employees accepting a newborn, so long as they act in good faith. Provides that a person may leave a newborn with a hospital employee at a hospital or with a fire station employee at a fire station without prosecution for that act if certain requirements are met. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement.
