Short description: 
NURSING ACT-LICENSING                                                      

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing  Act.   Provides      
   that  the  provision  prohibiting  an  applicant  from  being issued a      
   license as a registered nurse or practical nurse unless he or she  has      
   passed   the  Department-authorized  examination  within  3  years  of      
   graduation from an approved  nursing  education  program,  unless  the      
   applicant    submits    proof    of   successful   completion   of   a      
   Department-authorized   remedial   nursing   education   program    or      
   recompletion  of  an  approved  registered nursing program or licensed      
   practical nursing program, does not apply to applicants  educated  and      
   licensed   under   the   laws   of  another  jurisdiction.   Effective      
   immediately.                                                                
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Deletes everything.  Amends the  Nursing  and  Advanced  Practice      
   Nursing  Act.   Provides that an applicant who has never been licensed      
   previously in any jurisdiction  that  utilizes  a  Department-approved      
   examination  and  who  has  taken  and  failed to pass the examination      
   within 3  years  of  filing  the  application  must  submit  proof  of      
   successful  completion  of  a  Department-authorized nursing education      
   program or recompletion of an approved registered nursing  program  or      
   licensed  practical  nursing  program prior to reapplication.  Deletes      
   the provision that no  applicant  shall  be  issued  a  license  as  a      
   registered  nurse  or  practical nurse unless he or she has passed the      
   examination authorized by the Department within 3 years of  completion      
   and  graduation from an approved nursing education program, unless the      
   applicant   submits   proof   of   successful    completion    of    a      
   Department-authorized    remedial   nursing   education   program   or      
   recompletion of an approved registered  nursing  program  or  licensed      
   practical nursing program. Effective immediately.
