House Sponsors: DAVIS,MONIQUE. Short description: SCH CD-EXPULSION FOR OFFENSES Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the School Code. Lists offenses for which a pupil may be expelled for up to one year. Effective July 1, 2001. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Replaces the list of offenses with a requirement that a school board establish and, in written form, compile and maintain definitions of those offenses that would result in expulsion for up to one year. Prohibits a school board from expelling a student for more than one year (instead of 2 years). FISCAL NOTE (State Board of Education) There would be no fiscal impact at the State level. An undeter- mined number of school districts will need to re-tool their expulsion policy if this bill is enacted. SBE is unable to quantify this cost. FISCAL NOTE, H-AM 1, 2 (State Board of Education) It is unclear how many school districts may have to amend their expulsion policies to add such definitions. The cost will likely be minimal. STATE MANDATES NOTE (State Board of Education) Same as SBE fiscal note. STATE MANDATES NOTE, H-AM 1, 2 (State Board of Education) Same as SBE fiscal note (H-ams 1 and 2). BALANCED BUDGET NOTE (Bureau of the Budget) Since HB 268 is not a supplemental appropriation bill, the Balanced Budget Note Act is inapplicable. BALANCED BUDGET NOTE, H-AM 1 (Bureau of the Budget) Same as previous balanced budget note.
