House Sponsors: HOFFMAN. Short description: EMERGENCY VEHICLES-PASSING Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code and the Unified Code of Corrections. Provides that upon approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle displaying flashing warning lights, a person who drives an approaching vehicle shall yield the right-of-way by making a lane change if it is safe to do so or shall reduce speed and proceed with caution if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe. Provides that the driving privileges of a person who violates the provision shall be suspended for 90 days to one year if the violation results in damage to the property of another person, for 180 days to 2 years if the violation results in injury to another person, and for 2 years if the violation results in the death of another person. FISCAL NOTE (Illinois State Police) If HB 374 were to become law, there would be no fiscal impact to the Illinois State Police.
