House Sponsors: ZICKUS-SCHMITZ-BIGGINS-SCULLY-BELLOCK AND PARKE. Short description: SCH CD-COMPUTER ACCESS-MINORS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the School Code. Requires a school board to adopt a written policy regarding a minor's access to and use of a public access computer for Internet connectivity. Provides that the written policy shall require public access computers to be equipped with software that seeks to prevent minors from gaining access to explicit sexual materials through Internet connectivity, subject to the availability of funds for this purpose from the Technology Literacy Challenge Program or the Technology Success Grant Program. Provides that the school board shall allow teachers or other authorized adult employees of a public school to circumvent the filter software to allow certain minors to have unfiltered access to the Internet or an online service for specific projects that have legitimate scientific or educational purposes. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Provides that funds for the software may also come from the School Safety and Educational Improvement Block Grant Program. Makes a technical change.
