Senate Sponsors: BURZYNSKI-DILLARD-LINK Short description: COMPANION ANIMAL CREMATION ACT Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Creates the Animal Cremation Act. Requires a provider of animal cremation services to prepare and distribute a written explanation of the services offered. Also requires distribution by veterinarians, pet shops, and other business entities that refer or bring business to a provider of cremation services on a regular basis. Provides that a provider of animal cremation services who undertakes to return the ashes of a cremated animal to its former owner must certify that the services were properly performed and declare whether the ashes have been commingled with a significant amount of the ashes of other animals. Makes certain violations a business offense. Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act to declare certain violations of the Animal Cremation Act to be unlawful practices. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes provisions authorizing the posting or display of a written explanation of services as a way of complying with the Act. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Replaces everything. Changes the name of the new Act to the Companion Animal Cremation Act. Makes numerous but minor changes in definitions and requirements.
