Short description: 
LEAD POISONING-PREGNANT WOMEN                                              

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Lead Poisoning Prevention Act.  Requires physicians to      
   screen  pregnant women for lead poisoning and to warn them against the      
   dangers of breast feeding  their  infants  if  they  screen  positive.      
   Requires  the Department of Public Health to make quarterly reports to      
   the General Assembly concerning  the  implementation  of  measures  to      
   prevent and treat lead poisoning.  Effective immediately.                   
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
          Deletes reference to:                                                
          410 ILCS 45/6.3 new                                                  
          410 ILCS 45/14.5 new                                                 
          Adds reference to:                                                   
          20 ILCS 2310/2310-425                                                
          20 ILCS 2310/2310-430                                                
        Deletes everything.   Amends  the  Department  of  Public  Health      
   Powers  and  Duties  Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois.      
   Requires that pamphlets published by the Department concerning  health      
   care  for  women  must  include  information concerning lead poisoning      
   (including the risks associated with breast-feeding a  newborn  infant      
   by  a  woman  whose  level of lead poisoning is identified as posing a      
   risk to a  nursing  infant)  and  the  need  for  screening  for  lead      
   poisoning.   Includes  the  provision  of  that  information among the      
   duties of the Department's staff person designated to  handle  women's      
   health issues.  Effective immediately.
