Short description: 
CRIM CD-FIREARMS-TRACING                                                   

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  Provides that, upon recovering      
   a firearm that was used in the  commission  of  any  offense  or  upon      
   recovering  a firearm that appears to have been lost, mislaid, stolen,      
   or otherwise unclaimed, a local law enforcement agency shall  use  the      
   best available information, including a firearms trace when necessary,      
   to determine prior ownership of the firearm.                                
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Further amends the  Criminal  Code  of  1961  concerning  firearm      
   tracing.    Provides  that,  when  a law enforcement agency recovers a      
   firearm used in the commission of  an  offense,  the  law  enforcement      
   agency  is  required to trace the firearm to determine prior ownership      
   only if the offense is classified as felony.
