Short description: 
CRIM CD-WEAPONS-FELONS                                                     

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 relating to the unlawful use  or      
   possession of weapons by felons. Provides that a violation by a person      
   who is not confined in a penal institution who has been convicted of a      
   forcible felony, a felony violation of the Weapons Article of the Code      
   or  of  the  Firearm  Owners  Identification  Card  Act,  stalking, or      
   aggravated stalking, or a Class 2 or greater felony under the Illinois      
   Controlled  Substances  Act  or  the  Cannabis  Control  Act  must  be      
   sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than 3 years  and  not      
   more than 14 years (rather than sentenced to that term if sentenced to      
   a term of imprisonment). Effective September 1, 2002.                       
          FISCAL NOTE (Department of Corrections)                              
          HB 4261 would cause an increase of 35 inmates in the                 
          corrections population and would have a fiscal impact of             
          $8,882,900.
