Short description: 
TEACHER-BONUS-HIGHER ED ASSIST                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the School Code, the Board of Higher  Education  Act,  and      
   the  Higher Education Student Assistance Act. Requires the State Board      
   of Education to implement a program to provide State-funded bonuses to      
   new teachers who agree to teach in a school on the academic watch list      
   or in a critical teacher shortage discipline. Requires  the  Board  of      
   Higher  Education  to implement a program in which public institutions      
   of higher education would waive tuition for  students  enrolled  in  a      
   course of study leading to teacher certification who agree to teach in      
   a  school  on  the  academic watch list. Requires the Illinois Student      
   Assistance Commission to implement  a  loan  forgiveness  program  for      
   students   enrolled   in   a   course  of  study  leading  to  teacher      
   certification who agree to teach in a school  on  the  academic  watch      
   list.                                                                       
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Replaces the provisions concerning loan  forgiveness  for  future      
   teachers  with  provisions  requiring  the Illinois Student Assistance      
   Commission to implement  a  loan  repayment  program  for  these  same      
   students,  with  $1,000 of a student's higher education loans forgiven      
   for each year of teaching, up to a maximum of $5,000.
