Senate Sponsors: SMITH. Short description: BREAST FEEDING-WORK-JURY Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Jury Act and the Jury Commission Act. Provides that, upon a mother's statement that she is breast feeding and her request to be excused from jury service, she shall be excused from jury service unless it is found that her statement is false. Amends the Jury Secrecy Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963. Permits a juror who is the mother of an infant to bring the infant into the courtroom where the jury is hearing testimony and deliberating on a verdict for the purpose of caring for and breast feeding that infant. Amends the Public Accommodations Article of the Illinois Human Rights Act. Provides that it is a civil rights violation to prohibit a woman from breast feeding an infant in a place of public accommodation. Amends the One Day Rest in Seven Act. Provides that an employer must provide reasonable unpaid break time each day to an employee who needs to express breast milk for her infant child if the break time would not unduly disrupt the operation of the employer. Encourages employers to make reasonable efforts to provide a room or other location, in close proximity to the work area, other than a toilet stall, where an employee may express her milk in privacy.
