House Sponsors: MCGUIRE-REITZ-BOLAND-HOLBROOK-LAWFER Short description: INC TAX CHECKOFF-KOREAN WAR Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Income Tax Act and the State Finance Act. Provides for an Illinois income tax checkoff, for taxable years ending on or after December 31, 2001, by which Illinois taxpayers may contribute to the Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library Fund by indicating the amount of the contribution (not less than $1) on their Illinois tax returns. Provides that the amount indicated by the taxpayer will correspondingly decrease any refund or increase the amount of any payment to be made with the return. Provides that the failure to remit an increased payment shall reduce the contribution accordingly and that the checkoff contribution procedure shall not apply to an amended return. Creates the Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library Fund as a special fund in the State treasury. Amends the Department of Veteran Affairs Act. Authorizes the Depart- ment to make grants from the Fund to private organizations for the benefit of the Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library. Effective immediately.
