Senate Sponsors: BURZYNSKI. Short description: EMPLOYMENT OF RETIRED TEACHERS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Downstate Teachers Article of the Illinois Pension Code and the School Code. Allows an annuitant receiving a retirement annuity other than a disability retirement annuity to accept employment as a teacher from a school board without impairing retirement status if the employment is not within 90 days after service was terminated and the annuitant holds a teaching certificate and is being employed to teach in the same area in which he or she was certified to teach before service was terminated (now, only allowed if the employment is not within the school year during which service was terminated and does not exceed 100 paid days or 500 paid hours in any school year). PENSION IMPACT NOTE (Illinois Pension Laws Commission) The fiscal impact cannot be calculated as SB 1028 may affect a change in retirement behavior. SB 1028 may encourage teachers to participate in the ERO and then return to work, substantial- ly increasing costs for TRS and local school districts.
