Senate Sponsors: JACOBS. House Sponsors: BRUNSVOLD Short description: ZOOLOGICAL PARKS-POPULATION Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Forest Preserve Zoological Parks Act. Lowers the minimum population requirement that allows the corporate authorities of the forest preserve district to establish, maintain, and levy taxes in support of zoological parks from 150,000 to 140,000 inhabitants. Provides that a forest preserve district located in a county with a population in excess of 140,000 (instead of 150,000) but less than 200,000 and that is contiguous to the Mississippi River may not levy taxes at an annual rate exceeding .01% of the value as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue upon all the taxable property in the district. HOUSING AFFORDABILITY NOTE (Illinois Housing Development Authority) Because the legislation does not specify which forest preserve districts in Illinois this will affect, and even then is volun- tary regarding implementation, a calculation of impact cannot be determined.
