MWRD-VETERANS PREFERENCE

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
Amends the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Act. Rewrites
and simplifies the provisions relating to veteran's preference.
Provides that veterans are entitled to a preference of 5 points to be
added to their final grade on any promotional examination held on or
after the effective date. Deletes a provision prohibiting a person
from receiving a veteran's preference more than once. Deletes a
provision that a person entitled to a preference does not have to
furnish evidence of honorable discharge from the armed forces before
the examination. Effective January 1, 2003.
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.
Makes the new provisions apply to original (as well as
   promotional) appointments.
FISCAL NOTE (Department of Commerce and Community Affairs)
SB 1683 engrossed will not incur a fiscal impact on DCCA.
According to information provided by the Metropolitan Water
Reclamation District, the legislation changes the statute that
relates to veteran's preference for original and promotional
appointment, and will incur only minor administrative costs.
Therefore, SB 1683 engrossed does not impose a significant
fiscal impact on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.
          STATE MANDATES NOTE
(Department of Commerce and Community Affairs)
In the opinion of DCCA, SB 1683 engrossed does not create a
State mandate under the State Mandates Act.
