House Sponsors: KOSEL-COULSON-ZICKUS-WOJCIK Short description: NURSING-LIC BY EXAM & ENDORS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act. Provides that applicants for licensure as registered nurses and licensed practical nurses by examination and by endorsement shall have graduated from nursing programs approved by the Department rather than specifying the number of academic years a program must contain. Provides that the requirement that graduates of foreign nursing educational programs must submit to the Department certification of successful completion of the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) examination applies only to an applicant for licensure as a registered nurse. Provides that an applicant for licensure by examination may take and successfully complete a Department-approved examination in another jurisdiction. Provides that the Department may grant an applicant for licensure by endorsement (rather than an applicant by examination) a temporary license to practice nursing. Deletes provisions concerning the expiration of temporary licenses. Repeals the Section concerning licensure by endorsement. Makes other changes. Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Adds reference to: 225 ILCS 65/5-23 Further amends the Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act. Provides that the required criminal background check be by the Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Adds reference to: 225 ILCS 65/15-13 new Further amends the Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act. Provides that a graduate of an advanced practice nursing program may practice in the State of Illinois in the role of certified clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse midwife, certified nurse practitioner, or certified registered nurse anesthetist for a limited period prior to licensure provided he or she submits specified documentation.
