AN ACT concerning criminal law.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Criminal Identification Act is amended by | ||||
adding Section 9.5 as follows: | ||||
(20 ILCS 2630/9.5 new) | ||||
Sec. 9.5. Material for DNA fingerprint analysis. Every | ||||
county medical examiner and coroner shall provide to the | ||||
Department a sample of dried blood and buccal specimens (tissue | ||||
may be submitted if no uncontaminated blood or buccal specimens | ||||
can be obtained) from a dead body for DNA fingerprint analysis | ||||
if the Department notifies the medical examiner or coroner that | ||||
the Department has determined that providing that sample may be | ||||
useful for law enforcement purposes in a criminal | ||||
investigation. In addition, if a local law enforcement agency | ||||
notifies a county medical examiner or coroner that such a | ||||
sample would be useful in a criminal examination, the county | ||||
medical examiner or coroner shall provide a sample to the local | ||||
law enforcement agency for submission to the Department.
