AN ACT concerning local government.
|
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
represented in the General Assembly:
|
Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by |
changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
|
(65 ILCS 5/1-2-11) (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
|
Sec. 1-2-11.
(a) A sheriff may serve any process or make |
any arrest in a
municipality or a part of a municipality |
located in the county in which the
sheriff was elected that any |
officer of that municipality is authorized to
make under this |
Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.
|
(b) Police officers may serve summons for violations of |
ordinances
occurring within their municipalities. In |
municipalities with a population of 1,000,000 or more, active |
duty or retired police officers may serve summons for |
violations of ordinances
occurring within their |
municipalities.
|
(c) In addition to the powers
stated in Section 8.1a of the |
Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a
population of |
3,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing
authority |
police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
|
actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute |
orders of
possession for that housing authority.
