    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
 
    Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by changing
Section 12.2 as follows:
 
    (20 ILCS 2610/12.2)
    Sec. 12.2. Burial benefit for State police officers killed
in the line of duty.
    (a) The Department of State Police shall pay directly or
reimburse, up to a maximum of $20,000 $10,000, the burial
expenses of each State police officer who is killed in the line
of duty after June 30, 2018 1997.
    (b) The payments provided for in this Section shall be paid
out of moneys appropriated to the Department for the personal
services of State police officers.
    (c) The Department of State Police shall adopt rules
governing the administration of this Section.

    Section 10. The Line of Duty Compensation Act is amended by
changing Section 3.5 as follows:
 
    (820 ILCS 315/3.5)
    Sec. 3.5. Burial benefit. A burial benefit of up to a
maximum of $20,000 $10,000 shall be payable to the surviving
spouse or estate of a law enforcement officer or fireman who is
killed in the line of duty on or after June 30, 2018 the
effective date of this amendatory Act of 1997.
    The Attorney General and the Court of Claims may jointly
adopt rules and procedures for the implementation of this
Section.
