AN ACT concerning local government.
| ||||
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by | ||||
changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
| ||||
(65 ILCS 5/1-2-11) (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
| ||||
Sec. 1-2-11.
(a) A sheriff may serve any process or make | ||||
any arrest in a
municipality or a part of a municipality | ||||
located in the county in which the
sheriff was elected that any | ||||
officer of that municipality is authorized to
make under this | ||||
Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.
| ||||
(b) Police officers may serve summons for violations of | ||||
ordinances
occurring within their municipalities. In | ||||
municipalities with a population of 1,000,000 or more, active | ||||
duty or retired police officers may serve summons for | ||||
violations of ordinances
occurring within their | ||||
municipalities.
| ||||
(c) In addition to the powers
stated in Section 8.1a of the | ||||
Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a
population of | ||||
3,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing
authority | ||||
police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
| ||||
actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute | ||||
orders of
possession for that housing authority.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||
becoming law.
