Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that the Department of Insurance shall not use a licensed insurance producer's social security number as the insurance producer's personal identification number. Effective January 1, 2009.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Adds reference to:
215 ILCS 5/500-30

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Increases the number of hours a person must complete for an insurance producer license. Provides that before each license renewal, an insurance producer must satisfactorily complete at least 24 hours (instead of 30 hours) of course study and that at lease 3 hours must consist of classroom ethics instruction. Provides that there is no rulemaking authority under the amendatory Act, but that the Governor may suggest rules by filing them with the General Assembly and requesting that the General Assembly authorize such rulemaking by law, enact the suggested rules into law, or take other appropriate action in the General Assembly's discretion.

House Floor Amendment No. 2
Specifies that the pre-licensing course of study must be before the insurance exam. Provides that 7.5 hours of each pre-licensing course must be completed in a classroom setting, except Motor Vehicle, which would require 5 hours in a classroom setting.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Deletes provision concerning rulemaking.
