HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Benjamin Lucas Pantoja, affectionately known as Benny, was born on June 9, 2022 to loving parents Yolanda Carrillo and Rogelio Pantoja; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Pantoja is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Nicolas and Santiago Pantoja; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Pantoja was born 36 weeks and four days before his scheduled due date via c-section; and

WHEREAS, Upon requesting a birth certificate for Benjamin Pantoja, his parents were not provided with an official birth certificate or information on how to obtain one, nor were they offered any resources or assistance, but instead received a partially filled out commemorative certificate from the hospital; and

WHEREAS, This lack of support and information underscores a significant gap in the resources provided to families who experience such heartbreaking losses and face medical challenges; and

WHEREAS, Yolanda Carrillo, driven by her experience with the birth of her son Benjamin Pantoja, has been proactive in advocating for legislative change during the 103rd General Assembly, introducing House Bill 5215 and currently supporting a bill similar to Senate Bill 3182 to address these very issues; and

WHEREAS, The introduction of such bills highlights the ongoing need for legislative measures to ensure that families are given proper information and support during these critical times; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and honor the memory of Benjamin Lucas Pantoja and acknowledge the significant efforts of his mother, Yolanda Carrillo, in advocating for better support and resources for families dealing with medical issues and losses; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we support the ongoing legislative efforts to close the gap in information and resources provided to affected families, ensuring they receive the proper guidance and assistance in navigating their options during such difficult times.
