SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Vincent J. Speranza of Auburn, who
4passed away on August 2, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza was born to Francesco and
6Francesca (Perratori) Speranza in Manhattan, New York on March
723, 1925; he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and fought with
8the H Company, 501 PIR, 101st Airborne Division in the
9European Theater in the Battle of the Bulge during World War
10II; he married Iva Leftwich in New York in 1948; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza taught history at Curtis High
12School; he served as a union representative for the Illinois
13Education Association as well as several labor unions in
14Springfield from 1971 to 1980; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza wrote a memoir about his World
16War II experience and participated in numerous speaking
17engagements for veterans and active military groups; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza enjoyed life and traveled
19extensively in his last decade, making many new friends; he
20loved sharing stories, playing his harmonica, and singing
21songs, many times with an accompanying scotch and a cigar; and

1    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza was preceded in death by his
2wife and his daughter, Susan Erwin Pietrangelo; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Vincent Speranza is survived by his son, Vince
4(Tracy) Speranza; his daughter, Kathy (Jim) Wilson; his
5grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rosemarie
6Rich and Connie Beer; and his brother, Al Speranza; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Vincent J. Speranza and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Vincent Speranza as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
