SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Thomas Phillips; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was born in Hinds County, Mississippi to Hugh and Catherlean (Ward) Phillips on January 16, 1937, the third of 13 children; he relocated to Chicago in the mid-1960s; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips worked with the American Precision Casting Co. and later earned a position as a union steward; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was a member of the Chicago Chapter of the NAACP and the Masonic Lodge; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips never drifted from his upbringing in the church and served in many capacities, from a deacon to an associate minister; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was a loyal father to 10 children; a loving grandfather to 27 grandchildren; a fond great-grandfather to 51 great-grandchildren; a caring great-great-grandfather to one great-great-grandchild; and a protector of his siblings and family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Thomas Phillips and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Phillips as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
