SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nathalia Field Holland of Evanston, who passed away on January 6, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was born on February 18, 1908, in Omaha, Nebraska; her parents were Herbert H. and Margaret Larkin Field; she married William M. Holland in 1940; and

WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland had a long and distinguished career in journalism; at the age of 14, she began reporting for the Omaha World-Herald, where she covered events at Omaha's Central High School while she attended school there; she continued to pursue her love of writing in college, graduating with a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska in 1931; she was also active in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Nathalia Holland began a successful career at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co., where she worked in the publicity department as an editor and copywriter; she quickly worked her way up to her position as an advertising copywriter and scriptwriter for the popular radio variety show "The Singing Philosopher" on radio station KFAB in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she wrote material for host Lyle DeMoss; she also did freelance advertising for the House of Bauer Chocolate Company and public relations for the Bauer Drug Store Company during this time; after getting married, she and her husband settled in Evanston, where they spent the rest of their lives; and

WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was a member of the Nebraska Writers Guild and the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was the wife of the late William M. Holland; the mother of Marsha F. and William W. Holland; the sister of the late Herbert H., Jr., Marshall E., and Bradley C. Field; the aunt of Bradley (Bernice) Field and Don (Barbara) Field; the great aunt of Curt (Launie), Lawrence, Nancy, Gary (Jennifer), Russell, James (Jean), and Peter Field and Hayley (Michael) Nunn; she is also survived by her long time caregiver, Maria (John) Pyrak; and her devoted friends, Nancy Crane, Judy Ide, and Lisa Russell; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Nathalia Field Holland; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nathalia Holland as an expression of our sympathy.
