SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of the Honorable Justice Daniel A. Moore
4Jr., who passed away on September 11, 2022 at the age of 88;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was born the second of nine children
7to Daniel Moore Sr. and Irma Moore in Oak Park in 1933; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore had a childhood full of family
9gatherings, competitive sports, and good memories; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was a star debater and graduated
11from Cathedral High School in Duluth, Minnesota in 1951; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore graduated from the University of
13Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in business administration
14in 1955; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore served in the U.S. Marines for two
16years while simultaneously attending night law school,
17eventually receiving his law degree from the University of
18Denver; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore worked summer jobs with Western

1Electric in remote parts of Alaska before starting his long
2and distinguished legal career in Alaska; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore's career included serving as a
4magistrate judge of the District Court for two years, a
5prominent defense attorney at Delaney Wiles for 20 years,
6where he served as a managing partner for many years, and a
7trial judge of the Superior Court for two years; he served on
8the highest court in the State of Alaska, the Alaska Supreme
9Court, for 12 years from 1983 to 1995, during which he authored
10several hundred court opinions; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore, after retiring as chief justice
12from the Alaska Supreme Court in 1995, worked as a contracted
13mediator/arbitrator for 10 years, successfully ending with a
1495% settlement rate; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was proud of all of the law clerks he
16mentored and helped begin their respective law careers; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore became a Silver Life Master in
18Contract Bridge in his 30s, and he continued to be a skilled
19and passionate player until a month before his passing; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore served on various public and private
21boards, often as chair; and

1    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was very pragmatic and logical in
2how he lived his life, and he was very generous to others; he
3had a big heart and genuinely wanted the best for his family,
4friends, and acquaintances; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was preceded in death by his eldest
6child, Brideen, and five of his eight siblings, George, Pat,
7Nancy, Tim, and Jim; and
 
8    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Daniel Moore was
9survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; his son, Daniel
10(Stephanie); his granddaughters, Maddy and Elise; and his
11remaining siblings, Kay (Chuck), Mary Helen, and Michael (the
12late Patti); therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15the Honorable Justice Daniel A. Moore Jr. and extend our
16sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Daniel Moore as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
