SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William Shawn Altemeier of Taylor Ridge, who passed away on July 25, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier was born to Clyde "Tiger" Altemeier and Virginia "Ginny" (Longley) Altemeier in Davenport, Iowa on March 17, 1971; he served in the U.S. Navy; he earned a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University; he married Tammy Hansen in Rock Island on August 3, 1991; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier worked as a heavy equipment operator for International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 150 of Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier enjoyed making others happy by cooking and organizing the next get-together; he loved sports, hunting and training dogs, and going on spontaneous adventures; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier was affectionately known as "Cubby" and "Papa", and above all else, his family was the most important to him; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, Shawn Altemeier is survived by his wife, Tammy; his children, Taylor (Brandon) Smith, Kayla Altemeier, and Alac Altemeier; his grandchildren, Payton, Cameron, and River Smith; his mother; his sisters, Nikki DeFauw and Lynette Rodriguez; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William Shawn Altemeier and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Shawn Altemeier as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
