SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Patricia "Pat" Susan Giganti, who
4passed away on March 9, 2023 at the age of 77; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti was born to Samuel and Genevieve M.
6(Zock) Giganti in Springfield on April 11, 1945; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti entered public service at a young
8age, beginning to work for the State of Illinois within a few
9months of graduating high school; she worked for various
10agencies, including what is now the Department of
11Transportation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti was especially proud of her time
13working for Adlai Stevenson III during his tenure as
14treasurer, where she met and assisted the Rev. Jesse L.
15Jackson during the Operation Breadbasket protests at the
16Capitol in 1969; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Beginning in 1979, Pat Giganti worked in the
18Secretary of State Index Department before transferring to the
19House of Representatives, working for Representatives Daniel
20O'Brien, Taylor Pouncey, and more; and

1    WHEREAS, In 1995, Pat Giganti began working for the
2Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus when she accepted a position
3to work for Senator Louis Viverito, serving in that role for
4nearly a decade; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti technically "retired" from the
6Illinois Senate in December 2004 but continued her service to
7the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus for nearly two decades
8following her retirement, including as a legislative assistant
9to various senators from nearly every region of the State; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti's reputation as a staunch and
11sympathetic steward earned her the reputation of "trainer" of
12new senators, capable of assisting even the hardest of cases
13and making her both famous and infamous among members of the
14Senate Democratic Caucus; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti was known not to suffer fools
16lightly, and this made her a perfect gatekeeper for the entire
17Illinois Senate during the COVID-19 pandemic, when even the
18president of the chamber was briefly turned away; however, her
19immovability came to epitomize her commitment to protecting
20both her colleagues and the Illinois Senate itself; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti was known to many as firm but
22faithful and attentive yet affable; her character as a

1committed public servant and loyal ally earned her the trust
2and respect of all of her friends and colleagues in the
3Illinois Senate, from the most senior senator to the newest
4member of Illinois Senate staff, and she did it all with
5impeccable and unforgettable style; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti truly loved the Illinois Senate and
7served faithfully until two days prior to her passing; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pat Giganti was preceded in death by her parents
9and her brother, Samuel Giganti; and
 
10    WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Pat Giganti was
11survived by her sons, Robert J. Giganti and Charles J.
12Lamsargis III; her special sons, Eric Strohl and John
13Creviston; her brother, Francis (Karen) Giganti; and several
14nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Patricia "Pat" Susan Giganti and extend our sincere
18condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That the loss of Pat Giganti has left a huge hole
21in the Illinois Senate family; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Pat Giganti as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
