SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George White, who passed away on April
422, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George White was born on November 9, 1954; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George White was a longtime member of Service
7Employees International Union Healthcare Illinois, Indiana,
8Missouri, Kansas (SEIU HCIIMK); he first joined the union
9while working at a nursing home; more recently, he continued
10to serve the union as a home care worker with Addus Healthcare,
11where he played an important role in bargaining committees to
12negotiate contracts for home care workers; and
 
13    WHEREAS, As a union leader for SEIU HCIIMK, George White
14was noted for his calm, levelheaded, and driven approach to
15bargaining, effectively winning historic raises and paid time
16off for thousands of home care workers across the State; he
17also served on the executive board, where he was instrumental
18in union-wide decisions that impacted approximately 90,000
19health care and child care providers in Illinois, Indiana,
20Missouri, and Kansas; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George White was a longtime advocate for working

1class people and assisted in a number of campaigns, including
2the Fight for $15 movement, the Bring Home Chicago coalition
3and referendum, the Purple Brigade, and Senator Lakesia
4Collins' first race for a seat on the Illinois House of
5Representatives in 2020, helping to elect the first SEIU
6health care worker to public office; he also lent his talents
7towards serving Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, George White was a believer and a supporter of
9racial and economic justice for the working class, and his
10faith motivated him as a leader; as such, he was committed to
11doing the work necessary, not just talking about it; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George White will be remembered as a frontline
13worker, leader, and mentor to all with whom he crossed paths
14and for his contributions to organized labor and toward
15building a better future for all; and
 
16    WHEREAS, George White is survived by his wife of 35 years,
17Linda Griffin White; his children, George Griffin, Damon
18White, Tina Bryant, Kim Yarbrough, and Geneva White; his
19nieces and nephews, Sharlita White, James Smith, Richard
20Smith, and Lutricia Smith; and a host of grandchildren;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2George White and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
3friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of George White as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
