SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Harry Isamu Sakai of Schaumburg, who
4passed away on July 16, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was born to Isamu and Machiko
6(Hoshiyama) Sakai in Chicago on October 8, 1946; he was raised
7in Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High
8School in 1964; he earned his Associate in Arts in Accounting
9from Wright Junior College, his Bachelor of Arts from the
10University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Master of Business
11Administration from Lewis University; he and his wife, Sharon
12Kilkenny, moved to Schaumburg at the end of 1975; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was a Certified Public Accountant
14(CPA), using his attention to detail and love of numbers to
15serve as an accountant and later as finance director in local
16village governments; he began his career as accountant for a
17food processor in Kodiak, Alaska, and he ended his career as
18the finance director for the Village of Hanover Park; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Harry Sakai became interested in martial arts in
20his 30s; he joined Shotokan Karate and became a black belt; he
21also practiced Iaido and earned a black belt in this art; and

1    WHEREAS, In retirement, Harry Sakai became an avid
2gardener, and he especially enjoyed planting bulbs in the fall
3to grow into a beautiful display in the spring; he also enjoyed
4taking trips to Las Vegas every year and was an avid fan of
5singer Petula Clark; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was preceded in death by his parents;
7his sister, Peggy; and his brother-in-law, Mike Waters; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was the husband of Sharon Kilkenny
9for almost 51 years; the brother of Janet (Rich) Pultorak; the
10brother-in-law of Kathleen Kilkenny; the uncle of Sue (Mike)
11Stonequist and Cyndi (Matt) Ozimek; the granduncle of Brendan,
12Connor, and Abby Stonequist and Jonathan and Nicholas Ozimek;
13and the friend of many; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Harry Isamu Sakai and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Harry Sakai as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
