SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harry Isamu Sakai of Schaumburg, who passed away on July 16, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was born to Isamu and Machiko (Hoshiyama) Sakai in Chicago on October 8, 1946; he was raised in Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High School in 1964; he earned his Associate in Arts in Accounting from Wright Junior College, his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Master of Business Administration from Lewis University; he and his wife, Sharon Kilkenny, moved to Schaumburg at the end of 1975; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), using his attention to detail and love of numbers to serve as an accountant and later as finance director in local village governments; he began his career as accountant for a food processor in Kodiak, Alaska, and he ended his career as the finance director for the Village of Hanover Park; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sakai became interested in martial arts in his 30s; he joined Shotokan Karate and became a black belt; he also practiced Iaido and earned a black belt in this art; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, Harry Sakai became an avid gardener, and he especially enjoyed planting bulbs in the fall to grow into a beautiful display in the spring; he also enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas every year and was an avid fan of singer Petula Clark; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Peggy; and his brother-in-law, Mike Waters; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was the husband of Sharon Kilkenny for almost 51 years; the brother of Janet (Rich) Pultorak; the brother-in-law of Kathleen Kilkenny; the uncle of Sue (Mike) Stonequist and Cyndi (Matt) Ozimek; the granduncle of Brendan, Connor, and Abby Stonequist and Jonathan and Nicholas Ozimek; and the friend of many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harry Isamu Sakai and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harry Sakai as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
