HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Marian Central Catholic High School volleyball team, the Hurricanes, on winning the 2015 Illinois High School Association Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, After defeating Mascoutah in the semi-final, the Hurricanes faced Joliet Catholic in the championship game at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington; after being down one game, the Hurricanes showed the resilience that had defined their season and came back to win the next 2 games 25-18 and 25-12 to win the championship; and

WHEREAS, The Hurricane's title victory capped off an amazing 39 and 3 season, which included a 9-2 record in 3 game matches; and

WHEREAS, This is the first State championship for the Hurricanes; and

WHEREAS, The Hurricanes are coached by Elyse Slezak and Laura Watling; the players are Grace Biell, Norah Cetera, Rachel Giustino, Lauren Hanlon, Emily Hendle, Alex Kaufmann, Brenna Koch, Sydney Nemtuda, Rachel Noonan, Emily Radecki, Gabbie Rohde, Meghan Schwallie, Lexi Weck, and McKayla Wuensch; and

WHEREAS, The Hurricanes were not only able to show excellence on the court, but also in the classroom by achieving a 3.9 grade point average while competing at the highest athletic level in the State; and

WHEREAS, The Hurricanes are an example of hard work, integrity, and perseverance to the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Marian Central Catholic High School volleyball team, the Hurricanes, on winning the 2015 Illinois High School Association Class 3A State Championship, and we wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Hurricanes as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
