SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret N. Royal of Girard, who passed away on February 24, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Royal was born in Newton, Mississippi to Willis and Virginia (Brantley) Norman on June 1, 1924; she married Lyle W. Royal in Pascagoula, Mississippi on March 6, 1943; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Royal retired from Cahokia School District #187, where she was a secretary at Cahokia High School; she and her husband formerly owned and operated the Royal Highway Service Station and the Royal Treat in Cahokia; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Royal enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading; she and her husband were members of Maplewood Park Baptist Church in Cahokia, and then Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Royal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; and her siblings, Katherine Dunagin Steele, Marion Norman, and Sybil Mandle; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Royal is survived by her daughters, Elaine (Robert) Harrell, and Cecilia (Douglas) Pitchford; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Jeff) Caldwell, Cynthia (Brandon) Shafer, Erick Pitchford (Christine Bradley), and Tyler (Janna) Pitchford; her great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery Caldwell, Corban, Eliana, Jude, and Gabriella Shafer, Lucas Pitchford, and Maddy, Meredith, and Ben Pitchford; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Norman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret N. Royal, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Margaret Royal as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
