SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Melvin Fredrick Schroeder of Pesotum, who passed away on April 4, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder was born to Ernest and Irene (Kresin) Schroeder of Sadorus on February 17, 1936; he graduated from Unity High School in 1953; he attended Illinois State University; he married Shirley Augsburger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria on August 4, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder farmed his entire life in the Sadorus-Pesotum area; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder served his community as a member on the Champaign County Regional School Board, the Champaign County Mental Health Board, and the Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals; he was also the past president of the Champaign County Farm Bureau; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sadorus, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school; alongside his wife, he served as a 4-H leader for the Pesotum Pioneers for many years; he was a lifetime member of the Unity Athletic Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder will be remembered as someone who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife, as well as greeting and talking with anyone he might encounter along the way; he will be missed by his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Melvin Schroeder is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Schroeder; his sons, Chris Schroeder, Randy Schroeder, and Jon (Susan) Schroeder; his grandchildren, Jenna Linton, Jason Schroeder, Justin (Ericka) Schroeder, and Noah Schroeder; his great-grandchild, Tucker Schroeder; his sister, Lois (Don) Wood; his sister-in-law, Phyliss (Don) Willems; and his brother-in-law, Carl Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Melvin Fredrick Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Melvin Schroeder as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
