SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Wolford John Shane Sr., who passed
4away on July 26, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Shane was born to Wolford M. Shane and
6Amelia Raimer Shane in Danville on June 17, 1942; he attended
7Danville High School and Bradley University, playing on the
8golf team at both; he married Susan Strand Shane in 1966; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After college, John Shane became the fourth
10generation of his family to work at the Wolford Cannon Hoecker
11Insurance Agency, where he became president in 1974; his
12agency was purchased by Old National Bank in 2001, and he
13retired in 2006; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Shane cared deeply for his community and
15worked to make it a better place to live; he served as
16president of the Danville Area Community College for two
17separate terms, first chairman of the Provena/USMC Foundation,
18campaign chair and chairman of the board for United Way, and
19treasurer of Springhill Cemetery for over 20 years; he served
20as president of the Danville Country Club, president of the
21Danville Jaycees and Junior Achievement, and president of the
22Noon Rotary Club; he was a member of the Vermilion Healthcare

1Foundation for over 20 years and served as chairman for two
2years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Shane received the AMBUCS Danville First
4Citizen Award in 1999; he developed many friendships through
5his activities in the community, which he nurtured; he will be
6especially remembered for his kindness; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Shane loved playing golf; he won the
8Danville Country Club championship seven times and the
9Inter-Club tournament three times; he competed in the Illinois
10State Senior Amateur Championship and the Illinois State
11Amateur Championship, making the cut a few times; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Shane was preceded in death by his parents
13and his sister, Susan Shane Herriott; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Shane is survived by his wife; his children,
15Wolford John Shane Jr., Pamela (Dan) Shane German, and Steven
16Donald Shane; his grandchildren, Donald Keith Shane, Molly
17Elizabeth Shane, Lauren Amelia German, Michael Anthony German,
18Sylvie Lucille Shane, and John (Mack) McKee Shane; therefore,
19be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Wolford John Shane Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to
2his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of John Shane as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
