SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Johnny Ray "John" Shallenberger of Creve Coeur, who passed away on January 22, 2024; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was born in Peoria to Vernie Ray and Doris Agnes (Akridge) Shallenberger on July 20, 1954; he married Debbie Relker in Sunnyland on June 9, 1973; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger retired from Caterpillar, Inc. on January 1, 2016 after 43 years of service; he then went to work for the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office as a bailiff at the courthouse on January 4, 2016; he held the position of chief bailiff since March 20, 2021; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was a retired member of United Auto Workers Local 974 and was active in their leadership for many years, last serving as financial secretary; in addition, he was civic minded and had served as Groveland Township Supervisor, a Village of Creve Coeur Trustee, and a precinct committeeman; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger's family was a priority to him, and he loved watching his grandchildren participate in sports and their activities; he also enjoyed gardening and was known for raising jalapenos and making jalapeno jelly; he attended First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary Lee Shallenberger; his sisters, Frankie J. Freeman and Melody E. Tackett; and his brothers-in-law, Johnny Martin, William Howard, and Michael Boeck; and

WHEREAS, John Shallenberger is survived by his wife, Debbie; his sons, John (Jennifer) and Jason Shallenberger; his grandchildren, Carter, Mia, and Grayson Shallenberger; his sisters, Regina Martin and Ramona Howard; his sister-in-law, Julia Boeck; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Johnny Ray "John" Shallenberger and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Shallenberger as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
