SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Henry Knaack of Moline, who
4passed away on January 21, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Knaack was born to John H. Knaack Sr. and
6Mary (Scherer) Knaack in Moline on March 28, 1925; he enlisted
7in the U.S. Navy before completing his high school education
8and served during World War II; he was honored with several
9medals, including the European African Middle Eastern Area
10Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the
11Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal, and
12the Philippine Liberation Medal; after his honorable discharge
13in 1946, he obtained his G.E.D.; he married Fanchon "Penny"
14Nelson in Moline on November 1, 1946, and they enjoyed 70 years
15of companionship before she preceded him in death in 2016; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Knaack's professional life was characterized
17by hard work and entrepreneurship; he spent the majority of
18his career as a respected employee with A.D. Huesing; his
19entrepreneurial spirit led to him owning and operating his own
20construction company, Contract Roofing; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Knaack was an active member of the Left Bank
22Art League, where he shared his passion for creativity and

1artistry; he was a man of many interests, including painting,
2flower gardening, bird watching, and fishing; he enjoyed
3spending countless hours at his camp in Hillsdale on the Rock
4River immersed in the tranquility of nature, often with family
5and friends by his side; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Knaack was a beloved father, grandfather,
7and great-grandfather; he was known for leading a full life
8marked by service, dedication to his family, and a multitude
9of interests that brought joy to himself and those around him;
10he will be remembered for his friendly, thoughtful, and kind
11nature; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Knaack was preceded in death by his parents;
13his sisters, Katherine and Mary; and his brother, George; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Knaack is survived by his children, Georgia
15(Kent) Stevens, John (Trudy) Knaack, and Julie (Tim) Mills;
16his grandchildren, Todd (Marni) Stevens, Brett (Brandy)
17Stevens, Jennifer (Michael) Zambrano, Sara (Jayme) Eckert,
18Lindsay (Brian) Bell, and Katherine (Jason) Stewart; and 15
19great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22John Henry Knaack and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of John Knaack as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
