SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-674 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of special license plates to a holder, or the surviving spouse of a holder, of the Distinguished Service Cross, at no additional cost to the applicant.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-674 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-674 new)
7     Sec. 3-674. Distinguished Service Cross license plates.
8 The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in the form
9 prescribed by the Secretary of State, shall issue special
10 registration plates to any Illinois resident who has been
11 awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by a branch of the
12 armed forces of the United States. The Secretary, upon receipt
13 of the proper application, shall also issue these special
14 registration plates to an Illinois resident who is the
15 surviving spouse of a person who was awarded the Distinguished
16 Service Cross by a branch of the armed forces of the United
17 States. The special plates issued under this Section should be
18 affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division,
19 including motorcycles, or motor vehicles of the second division
20 weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
21     The design and color of the plates shall be wholly within
22 the discretion of the Secretary of State. Appropriate
23 documentation, as determined by the Secretary, and the

1 appropriate registration fee shall accompany the application.
2 However, for an individual who has been issued Distinguished
3 Service Cross plates for a vehicle and who has been approved
4 for benefits under the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons
5 Property Tax Relief and Pharmaceutical Assistance Act, the
6 annual fee for the registration of the vehicle shall be as
7 provided in Section 3-806.3 of this Code.
