SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2705/2705-505  was 20 ILCS 2705/49.30
20 ILCS 2705/2705-610 new

    Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that for the duration of a road construction project, the Department of Transportation shall erect signage directing the public to each business impacted by the construction project. Provides that the signage shall: (1) inform the public that the business is open and accessible; and (2) direct the public to alternative places and routes for parking. Provides that the Department shall adopt rules to implement the new provisions.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing
6Section 2705-505 and by adding Section 2705-610 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-505)  (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.30)
8    Sec. 2705-505. Signs indicating travel-related facilities
9or tourist-oriented businesses. The Department shall, where
10economically feasible and safe, install along various
11interstate highways and other freeways with full control of
12access, except those that are toll highways, signs to alert
13motorists of the travel-related facilities available in
14communities served by upcoming interstate exits. The
15Department may also install, along other rural State highways,
16signs to alert motorists of the tourist-oriented businesses
17available on intersecting highways and roads under local
18jurisdiction in rural areas. Subject to the conditions set
19forth under Section 2705-610 of this Law, the The Department
20has the authority to sell or lease space on the signs to the
21owners or operators of the facilities and to promulgate rules
22and regulations for the leasing or purchasing of space.

11    (b) The Department shall adopt rules to implement this
12Section.
