Synopsis As Introduced Amends the State Police Act. Provides that preference for the hiring of a Department of State Police officer shall be given to the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter, grandson, granddaughter, brother, or sister of a law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty. Effective immediately.
Senate Floor Amendment No. 2 Defines "law enforcement officer" as any person employed by a State, county, municipality, special district, college, unit of government, or any other entity authorized by law to employ peace officers or exercise police authority and who is primarily responsible for the prevention or detection of crime and the enforcement of the laws of the State.
