HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the 2021-2022 Fighting Illini Men's Basketball Team on a historic season; and

WHEREAS, The Fighting Illini won the 2022 Big Ten Championship for the program's 18th conference title while earning the No. 1 seed for the Big Ten Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Coach Brad Underwood has led the Fighting Illini back to national prominence with NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2021 with a No. 1 seed and in 2022 with a No. 4 seed; and

WHEREAS, Coach Underwood won his 200th career game with a 93-85 victory at Michigan on February 27, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Team member Kofi Cockburn was a unanimous selection for First-Team All-America and First-Team All-Big Ten, after being the only player in the nation to average 20+ points and 10+ rebounds; and

WHEREAS, Team member Trent Frazier was selected for Second-Team All-Big Ten and finished his Illini career as the school's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,794 points, while starting in a school-record 138 games; and

WHEREAS, Team member Alfonso Plummer was Third-Team All-Big Ten after finishing as the Illini's second leading scorer at 14.6 points per game and leading the Big Ten in three-point field goals; and

WHEREAS, This entire team brought a season of joy, enthusiasm, and excitement to thousands of fans and friends across the state, throughout the nation, and around the world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the 2021-2022 Fighting Illini Men's Basketball Team on a historic season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we are already looking forward to tipping off the 2022-2023 season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Underwood, members of the staff, and all members of the team as an expression of our gratitude.
