HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on the occasion of its 30th anniversary in central Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1993 as a consolidation of two well established organizations, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Association and the Bloomington-Normal Symphony Society; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is central Illinois' largest professional orchestra, serving over 35,000 patrons in the communities of Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, and the surrounding region through its symphony orchestra concerts, chamber orchestra concerts, and educational outreach concert program, Concerts for Kids; and

WHEREAS, Recognizing that live music has the potential to transform, rejuvenate, encourage, and inspire, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra proudly serves as a vital cultural resource, an educational partner, and an invaluable enhancement to the quality of life in Springfield and Bloomington-Normal; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs in Bloomington-Normal at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts and the Second Presbyterian Church and in Springfield at the Sangamon Auditorium and the First Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has appeared at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York; it has also performed statewide, with appearances at the Illinois State Fair, Millennium Park in Chicago, and the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has been actively involved in community engagement, including its 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration that involved over 1,000 performers and was named the Community Event of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras and its commemorative concert for the 150th Anniversary of the Lincoln Funeral Train in 2015 that included over 250 performers from throughout central Illinois; and

WHEREAS, In recent years, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra has striven to continue entertaining and inspiring during COVID restrictions through its Get to Know the ISO series featured on its YouTube channel; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was recently selected to be on the list of the top eight things visitors should see or do in Illinois by the website Only In Your State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, and we thank current Music Director Ken Lam and all of the orchestra's musicians for enriching the lives of Central Illinois residents.
