SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marvin Neely of Rock Island, who passed away on August 22, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was born to Clay and Ina (Holton) Neely in DeKalb, Mississippi on September 5, 1931; he joined Center Ridge Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from Whisenton High School; he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War; he married Louise Watkins on July 23, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Neely worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 38 years; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Neely enjoyed many years of league bowling at Town & Country; he was a member of Second Baptist Church in Rock Island where he served as an usher; he was also a longtime member of the Elks and Lions Clubs; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his retirement years, Marvin Neely enjoyed playing golf, watching his stories such as The Young and the Restless, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears; he loved to laugh, joke, tell stories, and celebrate his family's accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ella, Mary, Henry Clay, James, Benjamin, and Charlie; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Neely is survived by his wife, Louise; his children, Willie (Cyntra) Neely, Marvin (Judy) Neely, Lynette (Donnie) Neely-McDuffy, Lanolia Neely, and James (Bridget) Neely; his grandchildren, Tonia (Teonta) Williams-Neely, Tosha (Ishmael) Neely-Obleton, Monica Sanders, Shaylan McDuffy, Julia Garrison, and Tonette, Marvin (Jasmine), Christopher, Jeremy, James, Malcolm, Julian, and Jaden Neely; his 13 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Jimmie, Lanolia, and Edward; and his loving pet, Bo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marvin Neely and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marvin Neely as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
