SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gregory G. "Greg" Lietz of Danville, who passed away on February 9, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz was born in Chicago to Gerald and Kathryn Lietz on January 3, 1947; he graduated from Champaign High School, the University of Illinois, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz practiced law for more than 40 years; he served as village attorney and water district attorney for several Vermilion County governmental units; he always strived to the highest degree of integrity for his profession and the clients he served; he enjoyed helping people who sought his professional advice and took a genuine, caring interest in his clients; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz was the long-time treasurer for the Vermilion County Democratic Party; he served as treasurer for several Democratic candidates on the local and State level; he served on the Vermilion County 708 Mental Health Board for over 20 years, during which he served as president for 10 years; he was a member of the Vermilion County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville for over 40 years, where he taught Sunday School and Bible School and served on the Church Council; he was an avid stamp collector; he loved being outside and planting Early Girl tomatoes; he was known as a steady rock to those who asked for his counsel; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary (Peggy) Lietz; and

WHEREAS, Greg Lietz is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie E. Lietz; his children, Jenny (Kyle) Rauch and Robert (Gina) Lietz; his grandchildren, Hannah Rauch, Haley Rauch, Ella Rauch, Mia Lietz, Dominic Lietz, Colt Lietz, and Reagan Lietz; his brother, Ronald Lietz; his many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Buddy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gregory G. "Greg" Lietz and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Greg Lietz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
