SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Howard John Hammer of Altamont, who passed away on April 7, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Howard Hammer was born in Altamont to Arnold and Olive (Ziegler) Hammer on December 19, 1931; he married Carolyn Budde at St. John's Lutheran Church in Louisville on June 2, 1957; he served in the U.S. National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Howard Hammer worked for the Altamont Wholesale Company for many years; he also served as a road commissioner for Summit Township and was a lifelong farmer; and

WHEREAS, Howard Hammer was a member of St. Paul Blue Point Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #120 Effingham; and

WHEREAS, Howard Hammer was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arlon "Ace" and Norman Hammer; and his sister, Audrey Neu; and

WHEREAS, Howard Hammer is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn; his sons, Darwin, Chris (Cheri), Mike (Brenda), Kelly, and Kirk (Sondra) Hammer; his sisters, Irma and Verda Mellendorf; his grandchildren, Gretchen (Cody) Hammer, Chrisha (Derrick) Alwardt, Jacob and Jared Hammer, Kaile (Ethan) Wolff, Devin (Clare) Hammer, Darcie (Brennan) Buening, and Mackenzie (Dunavun) Goeckner; his great-grandchildren, Adison and Conner Alwardt, Paisley and Talon Ranes, and Grayson and Kynlie Buening; and one great-grandchild, Baby Wolff on the way next month; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Howard John Hammer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Howard Hammer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
