SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Stanley Campbell on the occasion of his
4retirement as executive director of Rockford Urban Ministries;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM), located at 201
7Seventh Street in Rockford, is an outreach organization of the
8United Methodist Church and a longtime champion of social
9justice causes; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Stanley Campbell was born in Eau Claire,
11Wisconsin; he was raised and has lived in Rockford since he was
12five years old; he served in the U.S. Army, and he pursued
13peace activism upon returning from Vietnam; he earned his
14degree in human services from Rock Valley College; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Stanley Campbell co-founded the Rock Valley Food
16Pantry, northern Illinois' largest food pantry; his ability to
17unite and organize others behind causes, including hunger,
18homelessness, and anti-violence efforts, caught the attention
19of the Rockford Urban Ministries Council, which selected him
20as the first non-clergy member to lead the organization in
211985; and

1    WHEREAS, During his tenure as executive director, Stanley
2Campbell co-founded the Rockford Interfaith Council,
3co-founded Promised Land Employment Services, founded Rockford
4Peace and Justice, co-founded the Rockford CROP Hunger Walk,
5served as project lead for the needle exchange program Harm
6Reduction Outreach, founded the JustGoods Fair Trade
7Marketplace, and was a Rockford facilitator for Northern
8Illinois Justice for Our Neighbors, a ministry that welcomes
9immigrants to Northern Illinois churches; and
 
10    WHEREAS, For over four decades, Stanley Campbell has been
11identifying and meeting community needs and fighting to right
12injustices; his work has made an indelible impact on the
13community of Rockford; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After nearly 40 years, Stanley Campbell will
15conclude serving as executive director on July 1, 2023;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
19Stanley Campbell on his retirement as executive director of
20the Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM), commend him for his
21dedicated service to the community of Rockford, and wish him
22the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Stanley Campbell as an expression of our esteem
3and respect.
