HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the 2023-2024 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team of Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School for winning the Chicago Public School district-wide championship, CPS Score!; and

WHEREAS, Coach Mark Klein of the girls Bell Blaze team remains committed to girls athletics and has instilled the values of hard work and sportsmanship in his players; and

WHEREAS, Assistant Coaches Jessica Ransom, Jermaine Marks, and Derek Yerkovich have also been crucial to the success of the Bell Blaze team; and

WHEREAS, Coach Mark Klein started the girls Basketball program in 1993 and has been head coach since; and

WHEREAS, This district-wide championship marks Coach Mark Klein's fourth consecutive championship win; and

WHEREAS, The Bell Blaze team members are Vega Ransom-Marks, Mary Hickman, Allie Reynolds, Nicole Toledo, Eliana Snopek, Alana Kroot, Lucia Azzarello, Callie Possinger, Paniz Baluch, Eva Yerkovich, Jordyn Alfarara, Mia Fojtik, Zoe Shey, and Sarah Neely; and

WHEREAS, The team displayed exemplary defense, understanding that patience and cooperation in these situations would allow for fast-breaks and opportunities to take chances; and

WHEREAS, Despite the team's hardships due to multiple player injuries, the result of their success stems from superior ball movement and coming together as a united front; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School on the district-wide championships of their 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School to highlight the impactful role of sportsmanship and athleticism on young people.
